Summary

In this podcast, I deliberately use examples to review many of the HY cognitive errors that are often tested on the USMLEs. I introduce these errors with an example, discuss the error, and then mention specific hotspots that the USMLEs use to test that particular error type. In today's podcast, I'm going to be considering a topic known as a cognitive errors and the USMLEs, cognitive errors on the USMLEs. This is a super high

0:16.3

your podcast for step one, step two, and step three. And where do many of these cognitive errors come from?

0:24.3

A lot of them come from what many people know as a heuristic, right?

0:27.8

So what's a heuristic?

0:28.8

It's pretty much like pattern recognition.

0:30.9

Many of us use this as medical students or as health care professionals.

0:34.0

You just use patterns in your mind and you just use that.

0:39.0

So I've said the first thing, like where they come from,

1:09.0

you know, a lot of them are from heuristics,

1:11.0

but the second thing I'm going to mention here is this. The right answer on your exam is going to be based on the way the scenario is described.

1:19.0

The right answer on your exam is going to be based on the way the scenario is described.

1:24.1

The scenario, the same scenario described one way may be one answer.

1:29.2

That identical scenario described a slightly different way, maybe
