Ephesians 4 and 1 Corinthians 11

Now in Ephesians the fourth chapter

we'll read the 15th and 16th verses

and then we'll be going directly to 1 Corinthians 11

it says but speaking the truth in love may grow up into him in all things which is the head,

even Christ, from whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every

joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part,

makeeth increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Let me read that to you from another translation.

Verse 16, from another translation says, for from him, the whole body closely joined and knit together by the contact of every part

with the source of its life, derives its power to grow in proportion to the vigor of each

individual part, and so is being built up in a spirit of love. What he's talking about here is the body, how that the body of Christ is like a human body,

and how that if all the parts are working right and functioning properly, then it works

together and is built up and edified and grows and increases.

And the same way that that can happen with a physical body,

he said that's what's to happen with the spiritual body of Christ.

Now looking with me also at 1 Corinthians 11.

1 Corinthians 11.

And in verse 29, he mentions the fact here that these folk were not discerning the Lord's body.

And verse 30 says, for this cause, many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

In other words, many have died prematurely.
