I've spent a lot of talk in the business world lately about the importance and value of

diversity.

Jeff Weiner is the executive chairman of LinkedIn, and while he believes in the importance of

diversity in the workplace, Weiner points out that company leaders need to take additional

steps, if they're truly interested in unlocking the potential of everyone on their team.

A focus on diversity can begin to ensure that you have the right representation amongst

your employees that is a reflection of the people and the consumers and customers that

you serve.

So diversity is about making sure you have the right DNA within the company in terms

of that broad cross-section of representation.

Inclusion is making sure that once those people are at your company, once they're within

the organization, they're being invited to the right meetings, that they're around the

Just because they're at the company doesn't necessarily mean they're making and informing some of

the most important decisions, or they're being given access to the right information, and

they have an opportunity to shape outcomes.

So that's where inclusion becomes so important.

And then belonging is ensuring that if they are sitting around the table, that when they

look up, they see and they hear other people like them, and they feel like they belong

there, so they can have some peace of mind, and they can do their best work.
