Citizens around the world are in the streets demanding fair play from their governments.

But here in America, why aren't we on the barricades? I put that question to social critic Marty Kaplan.

Why are we not also taking to the streets?

I want us to, but everything about our culture pushes against it.

The truth is that we can make a difference, but because we have been taught that we will be ineffective and fail,

it seems like the gesture of a rube to be hopeful.

And the author Gary May puts the recent Supreme Court's decision gutting the Voting Rights

Act into the perspective of history.

It's a history of advance and retreat, success and failure.

Congressman Lewis put it best.

He said this was a struggle of a lifetime.
