We so we we posted a rerun episode from eight years ago in which I said that I wasn't

quite sure about dissociative identity disorder or more the used to be called

And I want to be clear in the intervening years of training and

something I set out to answer the question for myself as a clinician,

is dissociative identity disorder a thing, is multiple personality disorder a thing, because I had heard that some people make it up and it's just this fake diagnosis doesn't really exist and I consulted with experts I actually started treating clients with dissociation and dissociative identity disorder

looking into the research, the forensic evidence, and I'm here to tell you it is 100% a thing. It didn't take me long to realize. Once you actually talk to people with dissociative identity disorder, you realize, oh yeah, this is a thing. Now, can some people fake it? Absolutely. People fake all sorts of things all the time, but the vast majority of people who claim they have dissociative disorder, do indeed have the disorder.

We've made episodes where we go into depth on it,

but just in brief, when we are young,

age two, three, four years old,

and we are going through something that is very scary,
