The apostle Paul is writing in in verse 7 says, do not be idolaters, as some of them were, speaking of the Israelites. As it is written, the people sat down

Today's teaching is part three of a series titled Disqualifications for Christians. Here in chapter 10, Paul has started using the Israelites

as an example of being disqualified from all that God had waiting for them in the

promised land. And it's by way of this example that Paul warns the Corinthians

by specifically identifying what it is that actually disqualified the Israelites. And he does

this with the hope that the Corinthians would not repeat the folly of the Israelites

and in so doing themselves be disqualified from that which God had for them.

The first one that Paul identifies is found in verses 1 through 4 and it's that of relying on past

blessings. Here Paul says the Corinthians were in danger of taking God's past blessings for granted, specifically the Exodus out of Egypt, delivering them from the slavery of Egypt and in Egypt, which is a picture of the world.

What it seems that the Israelites did was not just to take those blessings for granted,

but they used those blessings as an excuse, really a license to sin in their carnality.

Well, that brought us to our second one, which we looked at last week in verses 5 and 6 and it's that of gratifying the lusts of the flesh.

Here Paul refers to the Israelites growing tired of and bored with God's miraculous provision of daily manna.

And instead of the manna they desired meat or flesh if you prefer to eat.
