Summary

0:44.0	Police and security officials have been anticipating that this day was going to be one of a lot of clashes between Jewish demonstrators and Palestinians in the old city of Jerusalem.
0:55.0	And sure enough, very early this morning, a crowd of worshippers at Al-Oxam Mosque clashed with police.
1:01.0	It's a little bit unclear exactly how that encounter started, but it was quite violent.
1:11.0	Steve Hendrix is the Jerusalem Bureau Chief for the Post.
1:14.0	He spoke with producer Lena Muhammad at Early Monday morning.
1:19.0	More than 200 Palestinian protesters were injured. Most of the injuries were minor and seemed to be caused by the sponge tip bullets that riot police used to disperse them.
1:31.0	There was also tear gas and stun grenades, a lot of confusion, a lot of people running. Several people were hospitalized and they think more is to come.
1:41.0	There have been violent clashes in Jerusalem for a couple of weeks now. At the very beginning of Ramadan, the Muslim Holy Month, there were encounters between young Palestinian men in the evenings in police outside of the Damascus gate.
1:56.0	Those were diffused after a couple of days when police sort of backed off and removed some of their security fencing from the area.
2:03.0	But in the last several days, there have been even more pitched fighting. A group of some 70,000 worshippers came onto the Al-Oxam Mosque plaza on Friday morning.
2:15.0	And later in the day, after prayers, that erupted into conflicts that caused several hundred injuries to Palestinians.
2:24.0	A few Israeli police were also injured in that. There were reports that Israeli police actually entered not just the plaza surrounding the mosque, but the House of Worship itself.
2:36.0	There was some video that suggested some of the police rolled flash grenades into the space.
