0:50.0	So Tyler, for years, beginning in 1967 Disney received permission from the Florida
0:58.1	legislature to create a local government known as the Reedy Creek
1:02.2	Improvement District.
1:04.0	Can you explain how exactly this worked?
1:05.6	How was the land that Disney World was set on,
1:10.0	controls, different, and able to manage that area differently from the rest of Florida.
1:16.0	Yeah, so this was a special district where it was still a government entity,
1:21.0	but it was effectively controlled by Disney.
1:23.5	And the way that they did this was anybody who owned land in the district
1:27.9	had a certain number of votes for the five member board of supervisors.
1:33.3	So pretty much Disney got to hand pick all the supervisors.
