Hi there, everyone. It is 4 o'clock here in New York. I'm Lisa Menendez, in for Nicole Wallace.

And we begin with that bombshell report on former Congressman Matt Gates by the House Ethics Committee.

A report so blistering, you cannot unsee it. The culmination of a years-long investigation, 37 pages, compiled by Gates as former peers in Congress, including fellow Republicans, citing what they characterize as, quote, substantial evidence of a litany of allegations, including that, quote, between 2017 and 2020, Gates regularly paid women

for engaging in sexual activity with him. That, quote, in 2017, Gates engaged in sexual activity

with a 17-year-old girl. That from 2017 to 2019, Gates, quote, used or possessed illegal drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy.

That Gates, quote, accepted gifts, including transportation and lodging in excess of permissible

amounts. That Gates, quote, arranged for his chief of staff to assist a woman with whom he

engaged in sexual activity in obtaining a passport, falsely indicating to the State

Department that she was a constituent. That Gates, quote, knowingly and willfully sought to impede

the House ethics investigation, and that Gates' conduct, quote, reflects discredibility upon the House.

As if to put an even finer point on it, the report concludes, quote,

there is substantial evidence the Representative Gates violated House House rules and other

standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible

gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress. It is a lot, just on the

face of it. And even more so, when you consider Matt Gates was President-elect Trump's first choice

to run the Department of Justice. We should note Matt Gates has denied any wrongdoing. Earlier today,

Gates sought a restraining order against the House Ethics Committee

in an effort to halt the panel's release of the report. A hell Mary that did not stop the report

from coming out and could not stop the fallout that is now in full swing. That report is where we start
