Summary

You can be a positive presence in a negative world! In fact, the power of one Christian is unlimited—because a Christian is someone who is vitally linked to an all-powerful, all-wise, and all-loving God. In his eight-part series Discover the Power of One, Michael Youssef examines the life of the Old Testament prophet Daniel and explains how—with God’s help—you, too, can make a difference for good and for God in your world—no matter how dark, pressure-packed, or troublesome that world may be.

I don't think there's anybody who would disagree that peer pressure is a powerful force,

0:08.6

not only in this society but any society.

0:11.6

Having lived in three societies, I can testify to the fact that it is a very powerful force.

0:18.5

And I know it is most prevalent among the young, but it's not exclusively

0:23.6

so. I have seen many a man and a woman who have fallen victims to the peer pressure.

0:31.6

I have seen many adults who have been victimized by their own succumbing and surrendering to peer pressure.

0:41.3

There are three different types of peer pressure. Of course, there's a neutral peer pressure

0:45.6

that doesn't affect us for good or bad. It doesn't affect our future, doesn't affect our

0:49.3

behavior. Then there is a positive peer pressure that always brings the best out of us, the best values and the faith and strength in our lives.

But then there is a negative peer pressure which is the most common of all.

1:02.1

And that negative peer pressure leads us to act against our own convictions, against what we know it is right, against what we are taught to be right, against what

1:11.8

God had communicated to us to be right. And the only answer I know to standing up to peer pressure

1:18.7

is to know how to say no and say it firmly, say it with conviction, and say it often, and say it

1:26.4

confidently. Not only that, but I think the most

1:29.8

important thing that we can teach this generation and the generations to come is not only to be

1:35.8

able to say no to negative peer pressure, but they themselves be equipped to be powerhouse

1:42.2

for positive peer pressure. Instead of you being the pressure and the peer

1:48.1

pressure recipient, be the pressure giver. Be the pressure maker. And today, I want to tell you about

1:55.8

four young men who resolved in their heart, not only to say no to negative peer pressure, but they became

2:05.0

the peer pressure. Those four young men were determined, not only to say no, but positively

2:12.4

set the standard for the entire Babylonian Empire. They positively made it fashionable to be different.

2:21.8

They positively became leaders instead of followers.
