Constance steadied herself, aching with the desire to know.

"'You didn't bring your husband,' the detective said. It wasn't a question.

Constance said nothing. I was hoping to tell you together.'

"'The detective's eyes found Constance's,

"'as if querying whether Constance was ready for what she had to say.

"'Whatever it is, I wanted to hear it alone first.

"'Well, Mrs. Bianchi, I can tell you that we've had some new evidence come in, and I'm

confident we've found who killed your daughter. We've taken that person into custody.

So it wasn't Stephen? She whispered the words. Even now, after everything, the thought fested,

a rotten tooth. No.

We've been looking into Peter Thompson.

He, Clint Kennard and Roland Mathers have been manufacturing drugs, and I believed it might have something to do with Esther's disappearance.
