The White Tiger, Arvind Adiga's darkly comedic novel about a clever servants rise out of poverty in India, won the Booker Prize in 2008.

13 years later, The White Tiger is a big hit for Netflix, directed by Adiga's friend from college, Ramin Barani.

You know, it's a huge movie. It took 60 days to film. I don't think that would have

happened in 2008 with an all Indian cast, 30% in Hindi, made by an Iranian-American. Who would

have done that? Dealmaker, Rameen Barani, and author Arvin Adiga, join us to talk about

The novel Adiga dedicated to Barani, never thinking his friend would actually turn it into a movie,

and a movie produced by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, no less.

Adiga and Barani remember their student days when they bonded over a screening of Martin Scorsese's mean streets,

while other students walked

out. And they reflect on these strange times for movies. Netflix says the White Tiger is number one in

64 countries around the world, but Barani still hasn't been able to see his film in a theater.

Joss Whedon has been called out now by people who worked with them on Buffy, the Vampire Slayer,

but there had been allegations sort of percolating about Joss Whedon for quite a long time.
