But the basic assumption on our side is of course that technology transcends everything,

you know, the distinction between what is local

and what is global makes no sense anymore. Some of the platforms have no respect for

national borders. The voice you heard was that of Casper Klinger, the Danish Technology Ambassador and the world's first. The View Podcasts that's brought to you jointly with Casper.

For thousands of years, technology developments have significantly impacted politics.

Take the immense improvements in shipping technology and navigation during the 16th and 17th centuries

and the advantage this gave to European nations,

or the development of the Telegraph in the 19th century,

which reduced the communication delay across a continent from 10 days to less than an hour.

Although powerful, these technologies were really merely viewed as tools, not as political

agents.

Well, this has changed with the internet.

Many companies now have revenues that exceed the GDP of many nations.

The largest internet platform Facebook has nearly twice as many users as China has people. In some cases these companies hold the reins

over the digital public sphere. So what are the implications of these changes? We're going

to tackle these issues and many more in one of my very favorite conversations of the year.
