Summary

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. – Proverbs 9:10 Today, Todd and Carl are joined by Chris Ansberry, associate professor at Grove City College, and a colleague of Carl's who refuses to wear socks, much to Carl's chagrin. Wardrobe choices aside, Chris recently wrote a commentary on the Book of Proverbs, published by Zondervan Academic as part of their Exegetical Commentary Series. Wisdom literature seems to be a little bit obscure to many students of the Bible, but Chris has a deep love for these books that have often been marginalized. "Proverbs is not only designed to form our intellect, but it's also cultivating and directing our desires, it's shaping our forms of life, it's helping our perception – how do we see people, how do we see the world? 0:31.6	Thank you. Welcome to Mordification of spin. My name's Carl Truman. I'm Professor of Biblical and Religious Studies at the Wonderful Grove City College in beautiful Western Pennsylvania. Here as always with my friend Todd Pruitt, also host of this podcast. And Todd, you and I have been together now. We were talking earlier for
1:11.9	maybe 14 years, something like that. Close to that. You know, I met you when I moved my family
1:18.6	to Philadelphia in the fall of 2009. I had recently become familiar with you because I'd
1:26.9	been keeping up on news at Westminster
1:29.9	Seminary and the departure of a Old Testament professor. I was fascinated. Oh yeah,
1:34.3	happiest time of my life. Yeah, exactly. I was fascinated by what was going on. And I knew
1:39.4	that I'd read, I'd read an early book of yours, a compilation of essays, and I loved it.
1:45.4	I just thought, man, this guy's great.
1:47.4	And when I moved Philadelphia, a member of my church was a board member at the seminary.
1:52.1	And he said, is there anybody in the faculty that you'd like to meet?
1:55.1	And I said, I'd love to get some time with Carl Truman.
1:59.1	I really liked what you write.
1:59.9	But I also, I just want to hear what he's experienced over the last year with all the turmoil
2:05.3	at the seminary and everything.
2:06.4	And so, and you and I had breakfast that morning.
2:09.1	And that was back in 2009.
2:11.5	They took me out of the psychiatric unit where I was being treated for deep depression.
2:15.3	I remember.
2:16.2	That's right.
2:16.8	And you saw me go into the psychiatric unit the next few years.
