Previously on Digger, Dylan and his friends were captured by Kai, the leader of the risers.

Kai told Dylan of his plans to use them to convince the rest of Under Earth to help him rise to the surface.

Dylan refused to help him and stole a bejeweled dagger from Kai's castle in case he needed to

defend himself. K

K Kay could force him and his friends to do a broadcast,

Mora flew in with her airship and rescued them.

As they flew away, Dylan had to cut the airship's balloon with his new

dagger to help them escape their pursuers. With one damaged engine and a popped balloon, they were forced to crash land in the boiling sea and dive into the depths to keep out of sight.

Digger. Oh, Oh, Dylan had never been in a submarine before. The thought of diving deep into the ocean in a metal tube didn't sound too appealing. Everything about the ocean was terrifying to him.

He was so dark and mysterious.

There were creatures you could barely see all around you, and it went on forever.

And now, here he was, diving into the depths of a sea far below the Earth's surface in an airship that was practically falling apart.

Pondering this, he sat in the seat next to Mora and closed his eyes, not daring to look out

the cockpit window.

Behind him, Laini and Mac were marveling at what they saw.

Look at that thing, Dylan heard Mac say.

Is it glowing?

Oh man, I think it's growing.

It's like a disco ball with fins.

Whoa, look at all those tentacles, Lainey added, leaning over Dylan's shoulder to get a better look.
