Summary

The world is chaotic. Systems are failing. Towns are burning. If you need to make an appointment with your doctor you may have to wait til July. So it's time to make a show about it all. I implore you to record moments of your day and send me the audio and I will try to make a show that sounds like RIGHT NOW. Email the recordings to me at [email protected].

This is Rumblestrip. I'm Erica Heilman.

Yesterday morning, I called my health insurance company with some questions about some things.

0:11.7

They weren't, you know, big things, but they were things that I wasn't reimbursed for

0:16.3

that I thought I should be reimbursed for. And I talked with five customer service people. I repeated my

0:25.2

address and my social security number five times. Number three, customer service representative I was

0:33.1

disconnected from, so then I had to start again. And I was on the phone with my health insurance company

0:39.0

for 49 minutes. And then I started to cry and I cried all morning. And I didn't even really know

0:45.2

why I was crying. But it has to do with being, I think, at the mercy of failing systems and failing politics and climate disasters. Los Angeles is burning.

can do about it, because I feel like there's plenty of that. I want to make a show about what this time sounds like.

1:47.5

Maybe you can record a call to your health insurance company or a call to the cable company

1:52.7

or that self-checkout at the grocery store, but actually you almost always have to talk

1:58.5

to someone who works there anyway.

2:00.5

You could describe

2:01.4

something that you ordered online that doesn't work. If you're in a place that recently flooded,

2:08.2

maybe you can walk around and describe what you see and what it feels like there now. If you're in

2:13.4

Los Angeles and you're safe, I would love to hear what Los Angeles sounds like right now.

2:18.9

You could record a TikTok video or the inauguration or a dinner conversation or a song or a school board
