phase of dealing with the virus, but he stopped short of introducing more stringent social measures

Meanwhile, the Chancellor Rishi Sunak attempted to vaccinate the economy with £30 billion worth of spending in the fight against the virus, including some funding for sick pay and tax breaks for businesses.
