Summary

In the recent HBO Harry Potter trailer we got to see something we’ve never seen before- our first glimpse at Harry’s grandparents on his mother’s side. They appear standing alongside Vernon & Petunia Dursley in their wedding photo, with (presumably) Vernon’s parents on one side, and Petunia’s parents (aka, LILY’s parents) on the other. And with this new bit of info, it got me thinking- what DID happen to the rest of Harry’s family? Cousins, uncles, aunts, nephews, second-cousins..What happened to them all? Were they casualties of war? And why did Harry HAVE to live with the Dursleys? Did he really not have one other blood relative? Not even..ONE? Let’s dive into it. Learn more about your ad choices. Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Let's start with Harry's

0:56.7

grandparents that we see in the trailer, Lily and Petunia's parents, the Evans. The law

1:02.1

states that both of Lily's parents died normal muggle deaths without going into any detail.

1:07.8

We know that they both died sometime between 1971 and 1981, because in

1:12.8

1971, they saw Lily off to Hogwarts at Platform 9 and 3 quarters, and in 1981, Lily

was murdered. We know them to be dead at this point. It's unusual that they would have died

1:23.6

in this time frame, and I'm really not sure what constitutes a normal muggle death.

1:28.4

It definitely isn't old age because they would have been far too young. After all, Lily and

1:33.4

James are only 21 themselves when they died. So even if they had Lily quite late, a fair

1:38.5

assumption is that they couldn't have been that old. So if it wasn't old age, what's a normal

death? Cancer, heart attack, it's really

1:46.5

hard to say. Provided that all of the information we have on their deaths, groups them together,

1:51.2

and that they were so young, I strongly suspect some foul play. Lily and James were both very

outgoing witches and wizards, joining the Order of the Phoenix and actively participating in the
