Hello and welcome to the Naked Scientists with me Diana O' Carroll and me Mira Senti Lingam.

This week we've taken over from the other boys and girls at the naked scientists to bring you

our favourite naked science.

Plus we've got the next explosive set of experiments from the singular Dr. Howell and

sideshow Dave.

Coming up, we take a trip, literally into the stratosphere, with some parrojetting over some very high mountains.

Once you're up in the air you've got to keep the finger on the throttle, you've got a little hand control

and you squeeze that hand controller and that keeps the engine revved up and you keep being blown

higher and higher and when you get to the maximum height you want to go you can

switch off your engine and the wing keeps flying so you can just glide back down

again so what we did we flew to 30,000 feet switched off the engines and

get it all the way back down to our starting point.

We also find out how ancient pieces of pottery are without the use of that staple technique, carbon dating.

I think the problem is that most people think that carbon 14 dating can be used to date anything

and in fact it can't it can only be used to date things that have been living.

Now our method is self-calibrating and doesn't require any material from around the excavated

site so we can actually use it retrospectively on a lump of clay or a lump of pot or brick or whatever that's been sitting in a museum.
