And the Diamond's Dingly is an amazing young black visual artist who intrigued me because her work

shows a lot of love for blackness and when I talk to her as I expected,

she has some really interesting thoughts

on black aesthetics.

It seems you are very much coming from a consciously black aesthetic.

Like do you see yourself as a black artist?

I am a black person.

Hell yeah.

But, huh.

You know, like, um, I was talking to my friend about that.

No matter what I do, I'm going to be black.

And because the art world is so white,

I can make work about whatever,

and it's still gonna be somehow connected for them to my to like my

blackness before anything else. So I am a black artist I don't care like. Like, you know, some people get tight about it, like I'm an artist, but I'm like, I'm black and I'm an artist. So you put those two words together and you get, you know, black artist.

Hell yeah. I don't like, I can't, you know black artists yeah I'm like I'm I can't you know I can't help it yeah I'm black yeah yeah yeah

Like, yeah, that's fine.

I mean, you know, I appreciate it when I go into a museum or a gallery and I see a black artist representing

some aspect of our culture or how we feel or

it's really all I've known you know I'm from Chicago my father makes house music my mother

does hair for a living like come on
