About the most strenuous effort I might give out during a working year

is maybe chasing some thug up the

escalator at Bloomingdale's department store. But last week, I really odd-dead myself. The all-stars

of the police force challenged the private detectives to a baseball game for the benefit of the

vice squad. And I wound up stiffer than a pair of starts and overalls.

Because the private detectives are quick to take advantage of the slightest opportunity,

by the eight-inning,

we realized the need for some immediate strategy.

The score at that point was six to four,

the cops leading.

So I got a hold of a little blonde, I knew,

and had her walk across the infield in a sweater.
