Summary

Jonathan Ellsworth sat down with Mike McCabe at the Folsom Skis headquarters in Denver, Colorado, to dial in "The Hammer" that they have been discussing for a long time now, and that's based on the Folsom Primary Jonathan reviewed last season.

They then talk about three other new skis that Mike's recently developed, the Spar 88, some new editions of the Rad Dad, and the Primary Plus. (You can see graphics for all these skis - including The Hammer - here on the site.)

Hey everybody, welcome to another episode of the Blister podcast, Gear 30.

0:08.9

I'm Jonathan Ellsworth, the founder of Blister, and as always, you can check out what else

0:13.2

we're up to over at blisterreview.com.

0:16.7

Today on the podcast, I'm talking with Mike McCabe of Folsom Skis about this custom ski we've

0:22.4

been talking about for a long time now, The Hammer.

0:25.9

The backstory here is that Mike built a custom ski for me that was based on the Folsom

0:30.4

shape called The Primary, and you can read my review of the Primary on Blister.

0:35.8

The punchline is that the primary is a very good, incredibly versatile

0:40.1

ski. But versatility wasn't what I was most interested in. What I was most interested in was building up a

0:47.1

true variable conditions charger. So in this conversation, Mike and I explain how and why the first

0:53.7

primary build wasn't quite that variable conditions charger,

0:57.9

and we go over some of the elements that this new primary build, the hammer, is going to incorporate.

1:04.3

After that discussion, we then switch gears to talk about three new skis that Mike has just developed

1:09.7

and that he had literally just finished

1:11.8

skiing a few hours before he and I sat down to talk at Folsom headquarters in Denver.

1:18.0

So if you're curious about ski design or learning more about what Folsom is up to, I think

1:22.7

you're going to really enjoy this episode. Before we get going, I just want to remind you about our two other

1:29.0

blister podcasts, All Things Climing, which is hosted by our climbing editor, Dave Alley,

1:34.8

and our original podcast, which we think is aptly named, The Blister Podcast. You can find

1:40.7

the Blister podcast, All Things Climbing, and this very one, Gear 30, over on Apple

1:47.0

podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, or pretty much wherever you get your podcasts.

1:52.5

So I humbly submit that it would be a great idea to subscribe to all of these podcasts,
