Today we have a special guest, Dr. Dinesh Palapana.

Dinesh is a medical doctor who works at the Gold Coast University Hospital,

and he's going to be helping us today discuss D.K.A, which is diabetic ketoacidosis.

Now, DKA, obviously is represented or is a condition that you'll find in people who are diabetics,

predominantly type 1 diabetics, where they're starting to undergo ketogenesis,

which is the production of ketones from fatty acids,

and these ketones often spit

out acid or hydrogen ions as a byproduct making their blood acidic.

Now there's many different issues downstream from DCA that can result in coma and can also

result in death for example.

So what we're going to do is discuss DCA.

We're going to use a case studyCA. We're going to use a case

study, and then we're going to ask us to Nesh from his expertise clinically what you'd do to

diagnose and also manage this issue. Sounds good. So your take-home point, Mike, was

the DQa has three kind of parts to it hypoglycemia ketones and

acidosis happy with that happy with that obviously in that background diabetes yeah specifically

top one okay all right so um this is the scenario and this is i i'm like to believe as a typical

kind of textbook scenario that would be likely to present to ED. Is that right, Dinesh?
