Football Podcast. I'm Dan Schneier. Joins always my co-ist Nick Falado. And today we're here to

discuss the Dexter Lawrence trade, the fallout of the trade, what to make, what are the next

steps? As you can see, often my, I'm sorry if you heard that noise in the background. I think that was the YouTube playing. I was trying to tweet it out. But Nick, we are going to discuss a lot on this podcast, including what the Giants need to do now. Because I think there is a clear path for them in my mind. I want to see where you're at with that. Before we do any of that, I do want to know, you know, after having some hours to reflect on it, where are you at with this trade? Similar where I was when I first heard it. Look, the Giants, I don't love the fact that the Giants allowed a situation to sour to the point where one of their star players was like, I need to get out of here. Like that, I don't love that, but you got the 10th pick out of that situation with other teams possibly. It could have been a lot worse. Like getting that level of capital for the situation the Giants look like they could have been in, I applaud, right? Getting the 10th pick for Dexter Lawrence. At that same time, I know Dexter Lawrence is going to go on with the Bengals, team up with bj hill and they they're probably going to win the super bowl and it's going to be like all over our face we're going to be like oh course that's going to freaking happen like like i understand that dexter lawrence might be worth more than what the 10th overall pick is actually but getting that type of value and getting the rookie contract that goes along with it. That's a, that's a great job by

the Giants. Yeah, the way I feel like with time, Nick and the ability to reflect on it a little bit,

I, I can't say that I feel as devastated just because I just ultimately don't think Dexter

Lawrence wanted to be here. So I don't really feel like the Giants had any option in this

ultimately. And that's why I've allowed myself to feel better about it. Because personally, look, there is upside to making a trade like this. If you get the 10th pick and you somehow do hit on it to the level of Dex, now you just did a slam dunk trade. If you hit it on it to the level of a cave on tibito you have i guess an okay

trade you have somebody who's cost control for a little while under the rookie deal not really making

anywhere near the kind of impact decks is and i think and i'm hoping that there's a level above that

too where they can get to between cave on and between decks with what this 10th pick ultimately is

or with what they trade it to be but there there also will and there is and will always be situations where the seventh, the 10th pick could be Evan Neal or and, you know, and this is happy. It's not to Giants. The Giants aren't the only team who have blown top 10 picks. Top 10 picks don't hit a lot. I think Joe Banner said there's like a 50% hit rate or something on these top 10

picks, but he might have just been bullshitting. I don't even know if he was for real on that, but I did see that tweet. And I know through the history of just following the NFL and you do as well, Nick, there's a lot of us in the NFL draft, including top 10 draft picks. So it's not a realized asset it's not an actualized asset it's hope but there is hope because if you do land this

pick and you nail this pick you have him under a rookie con a realized asset. It's not an actualized asset. It's hope. But there is hope because if you do land

this pick and you nail this pick, you have them under a rookie contract and you're getting rid of

the 20 whatever million against the cap that that's what it cost the Giants next year. But ultimately
