Welcome to Pushback. I'm Aaron Mate. President Biden says that he will order the withdrawal of

all U.S. combat troops from Afghanistan by September 11th of this year. We cannot continue the cycle

of extending or expanding our military presence in Afghanistan,

hoping to create ideal conditions for the withdrawal and expecting a different result.

I've concluded that it's time to end America's longest war.

It's time for American troops to come home.

Now, this isn't the first time that Biden has made such a promise.

Back in 2012, Biden as vice president vowed that all U.S. troops would leave Afghanistan by 2014.

In Afghanistan, we've agreed on a gradual drawdown, so we're out of there by the year 20,

in the year 2014. My friend and the governor say it's based on conditions, which means it depends.

It does not depend for us. But we are leaving. We are leaving in 2014, period.

Well, seven years after Biden's last Afghan withdrawal deadline promise, is this Afghan

deadline withdrawal promise any different? Well, here's one clue of what it could look like from the New York

Times. Quote, instead of declared troops in Afghanistan, the U.S. will most likely rely on a shadowy

combination of clandestine special operations forces, Pentagon contractors, and covert intelligence

operatives to find an attack the most dangerous al-Qaeda or Islamic state threats.
