Summary

The Website Upgrade Your Business Has Been Waiting For Want a brand that instantly builds trust and makes you money? It all starts with your website. In this episode, I’m joined by Jen Olmstead, co-founder and lead designer of Tonic Site Shop. Jen is a design powerhouse with a journalism background, and she’s here to show you how to incorporate your story into every corner of your brand. We talk personal newsletters, visual branding, and how to make your audience feel like they already know and trust you—before you even make the ask. This conversation will help you step into the next version of yourself as a business owner. You’ll learn how to evolve your brand as you grow, stand out in a crowded market, and connect with your audience in a way that feels both strategic and authentic.  If your website is feeling outdated or your content isn’t converting like it used to, Jen will guide you on exactly how to make your online presence reflect the level of business you’re building. P.S. Are you one of those people who gets their best work done on a plane? DM me on Instagram @amyporterfield and let me know! HERE ARE THE 3 KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE: 1️⃣  Your Story Is Your Superpower – No one can copy your story. Not AI. Not your competitors. If you want to stand out in your niche, start sharing the personal stories only you can tell. 2️⃣ Your Website Should Reflect Where You’re Going – If your site still looks like “you” from five years ago, it’s time for a refresh. Your online presence should reflect the founder you’re becoming—not the scrappy startup you once were. 3️⃣ Consistency > Funnels in Today’s Market – Forget the funnel-first formula. Jen shares why long-term trust and repeat messaging (backed by a strong brand) are now the keys to conversions. If you want to do something that's unlike anyone else, you are the only person that has

the stories that you have to tell in your head.

And so if you are trying to set yourself a part in your

market, a great story is always going to be the thing that sets you apart.

Many, many years ago, I found myself outside on the front lawn of this little condo I used to

0:35.6

live in in Carlsbad, California, near San Diego,

0:38.5

and I was out there in the grass, my bare feet, in this top that I thought was super cute at

0:44.1

the time. And I had hired a photographer off of Groupon. I don't know if Groupon is still around,

0:50.1

but it was all the rage 15 years ago. And so I found this photographer on Groupon,

0:55.4

she came over to my house, and we shot some photos for headshots for my brand new website

1:00.9

that didn't yet exist. And I had like plans that this website was going to be gorgeous.

So we took these shots that looking back now, I cringe. And I thought the website was going to be

1:12.9

great, but I forgot that I have zero design talent. And really, I'm not good at aesthetics. Like,

1:18.6

the house I live in now, I had to hire a designer or we'd be in big trouble. Like, I really need help

1:24.5

with making things look good. It's just not my expertise or even a skill I have,

1:29.5

truly. So anyway, I decided why I thought I could create a great website. I don't know,

1:34.7

but I put it together and it was horrendous. And I had that really ugly website for years.

1:42.3

And I was the girl that didn't want anyone to go look at my website,

1:46.6

which is great because back then social media wasn't as powerful as it is today. You needed

1:52.2

people on your website more so than ever. And I didn't want to tell anyone my website. Like I literally

1:57.5

was very ashamed. It's called website guilt. We've all been there, right?
