Well, welcome back to another episode of Five Miss in Church History. On this episode,

0:04.8

we are visiting with our friend, Reverend Kenneth Ibugoa, from Nairobi, Kenya. It's nice to

0:11.7

have you with us. Thank you for having me. So you're here at our national conference,

0:16.6

and when you're back in Nairobi, you're a pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and you're

0:21.1

also the director of Ecclesia Africa, providing biblical resources for the church there in

0:29.2

Africa. We're glad that you're with us, and I think we're going to do you a favor, Ken. We're

0:35.2

going to send you to a deserted island. We're going to free you of all your responsibilities,

0:39.5

and you can just sit and read for a while. What five books would you take with you to your deserted

0:46.8

island? It's good. So these would be the five one. There's a book called The Bruce Dread,

0:55.2

by Richard Sibs. Good peer timber. I feel like that book is just the cross being applied to

1:02.8

the soul in a potent way. I think it's Spajun, who at the very beginning says that seems in this book

1:09.7

scatters precious pearls with both hands, which I think is just such a picture of what the book is

1:16.6

page by page. Not hypergrace, but the true grace very pottedly and partially applied to the soul.

1:26.4

Next would be the Christian ministry by Charles Bridges. So the Christian ministry and causes

1:32.8

of its inefficacy. As a student training for the ministry, I kept asking the question,

1:39.8

what is the ministry? What's my job? I feel like there are a billion different versions

1:46.4

of what my job actually is. And of everything I have read out there, nothing describes the nature

1:53.9

of the ministry of a pastor better than he does. And he does it in a beautiful way, because it's

1:59.8

it's not just the external stuff. He is digging into your soul. Another one would be a loving life

2:05.2

by Paul Miller. Started this book in my first year of marriage and put it down after a couple of pages.

2:11.4

It was too much. I felt like page after page it was just saying die to yourself, die to yourself.

2:18.3

And I was still in my honeymoon stage. So it's too rough. So now you're ready. I'm ready for it.
