Our reflection today comes from Joe Heshmeyer,

one of the School of Faith instructors.

I found it very enlightening, so I share it with you.

Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit

and let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Lent began with Jesus in the desert and it will end with him in a garden, the Garden of

Gosemene.

At first glance the two scenes look like opposites, but they belong together. For one thing, these are two

events we can only know from Jesus. He was the only eyewitness. Remember, the Apostles fell asleep in the garden,

and no one was with him at the mount of temptation.

And it's fascinating that Jesus doesn't tell us stories about great miracles he did alone.

The two stories that he reveals from his solitude are of his trials and temptations.

Jesus wants us to know that he has been through what we are going through,

and he is now with us in our temptations.

As the letter to the Hebrew says, for we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize

with our weakness, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without

sinning.

And Jesus reveals that God the Father will strengthen us as long as we say yes to his will. For both in the desert and in the garden, the

Father sends angels to strengthen Jesus. Lord, send me an angel right now.
