My bestie in crime is still dealing with, um, some highly sensitive and, uh, highly disturbing issues. So, um, this topic today is near a dear to my heart. It is the business of being sick. So I hope that you guys learn a little something today in this episode. And so I'm

excited to cover this. I have a lot to say. So hang in there. Bear with me. So the business of

being sick and how healthcare became a subscription model, which most people probably have not

even remotely thought about. And so when did actual medicine become a business? Historically,

medicine was relationship-based. So you had family doctors that would come to your house.

They did make home visits.

They used to.

I tell you, I grew up in an era where the doctors actually made home visits.

Community healers and that kind of thing.

And so the shift kind of began in the early 20th century with the rise of institutions like the American Medical Association.

But all of this came about because of the lovely Rockefeller Foundation that funded the Flexner Report.
