I'm Pete Bigelow, your host and reporter at the

Automotive News. As I sit here recording this today, I'm probably like many of

you looking at pictures of the East Coast under a blanket of thick smoke,

pictures of the Statue of Liberty with a glowing orange sky as the backdrop, and

reading headlines about the quote, worst heat wave on record hitting other parts of the world.

Suffice to say, climate change is front and center on my mind.

Joining me on the podcast today is Michael Barabay, the Department of Energy's Deputy Assistant Secretary for Sustainable Transportation in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

I want to be clear that we recorded this before the smoke below down from Canada, but it's timely nonetheless.

And we spend today's episode talking about the ways this administration is racing to wean all modes of transportation off fossil fuels and reducing carbon emissions.
