Summary

As a federal prosecutor, Will Rollins represented the people of the United States in court. He's now seeking to continue serving the people, specifically the people of California's 41st congressional district.

Will is a former federal prosecutor who focused on counterterrorism and counterintelligence cases in Southern California. He’s from a family of both Republicans and Democrats. He's running for Congress because the threats to our democracy and to our communities that first led him to run for office are still there, and Ken Calvert's record of extremism and corruption is only making things worse. Will is running to fight back against corruption in Washington, and end the toxic divisions that prevent Congress from getting things done for working families.

Hello, everybody. Welcome to Justice Matters. I am thrilled today to be sitting down with not only a candidate for Congress from the 41st District in California, but a former federal prosecutor.

0:35.5

So I always perk up a little bit when I get to sit down with one of my

0:38.7

fellow colleagues in the Department of Justice who understands the hard work of representing the

0:45.1

people of the United States. And this particular former prosecutor has chosen to try to

0:50.8

continue his public service, continue representing the people of his district in

0:56.4

California as a member of Congress. So I want to welcome Will Rollins to Justice Matters.

Thanks, Glenn, for having me. Happy to be here. I want to start by asking you to tell our viewers

1:06.9

a little bit about your background, about your experience, your work as a federal prosecutor,

1:12.4

an assistant United States attorney, because I know how formative it was for me to be able to

1:18.2

vindicate the rights of victims, protect the community, protect the rights of each and every

1:22.9

defendant that we were prosecuting to make sure they got a fair shake. So I understand the experiences and the

1:30.2

skill set you learned and the dedication to public service that is a product of the work that we

1:36.6

both did as federal prosecutors. So can you share with our viewers a little bit about your work as a

1:41.5

federal prosecutor? I missed that job every day, absolutely loved it,

1:46.5

and very different from politics and running a congressional campaign. And I had a steep learning

1:52.0

curve after I quit that job to run for office. And that was a job that I had tried to get for a very

1:57.9

long time going all the way back to really high school when I was a junior

2:02.0

and walked into my first class of the day on September 11th, 2001, saw the North Tower

2:08.0

collapse, thought about enlisting the U.S. military, but Don't Ask, Don't Tell was still in place,

2:14.0

and I was closeted and petrified of being outed. So I didn't want to give up on doing
