Since the start of the war in Sudan in 2003, the RSF has been fighting the Sudanese military, vying for control of the country.

In late 2024, videos emerged from the aftermath of an ambush in the desert of North Darfur, showing

that Colombian military contractors had crossed into Sudan from Libya.
