From New York this is Democracy Now. We've reached a bipartisan budget

agreement that we're ready to move to the full Congress and I think it's a

really important step forward. The agreement prevents the worst possible crisis

under fall for the first time in a nation's history. An economic recession,

retirement accounts devastated millions of jobs lost. President Joe Biden and

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy are urging lawmakers to support a deal to

suspend the debt ceiling till January 1st, 2025 in order to prevent the

United States from defaulting for the first time in history. The deal limits

non-military spending while increasing the Pentagon's budget. It also places

new work requirements on some recipients of food stamps and fast-tracks the

approval of the controversial mountain valley pipeline. We'll get the latest.

Then we look at a major new biography of Martin Luther King.

I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But

they really don't matter with me now because I've been to the mountain top.
