Democracy comes on 18 years.

Half Canadian.

I need to begin by mentioning that my mother was Canadian.

She was a missionary in Japan after the Second World War, and there she met my dad, an

American naval officer, in the course of his involvement in the Korean War.

How they got together is quite the story.

But let us not get sidetracked.

What matters for us today is that a Canadian and an American didn't get together, and

so I grew up in a home that was very much aware of all things Canada.

As a result, I have to say that I'd been quite dismayed and astonished at the apparent

usility of Canadians when it came to the recent shenanigans and mountain bankeries of their

government.

There was an occasional pastor here and there who kicked the way a Christian pastor ought

to kick, and I was really proud of them.

But for the most part, everybody up there seemed to have graduated from their compliance

seminars, their HR training, their North Vietnamese struggle sessions, or whatever it is we're

supposed to call them now.

And then thousands upon thousands of trucks in Ottawa just attuning their horns.

What happened?

What caused this?

What was the occasion that enabled the Canadian side of me to turn to the American side with
