Delan Malard grew up the heir to an airline company and had the means to get anything he wanted. It turns out that what he really wanted was to be a criminal. This is Monsters.

Delan Malard is the subject of quite a twisted tale. His crimes and his trials don't happen in order so I'm going to try to keep the story in chronological order to help it make sense.

Delan was born on August 30, 1985 in Toronto, Ontario to Wayne Malard and Madeline Burns. Wayne owned and operated Malard Air, which was an aviation company founded by Delan's grandfather, Carl Malard in 1954.

With a small fleet of airplanes, Carl operated his business out of Pearson International Airport in Toronto. Carl became known for developing a way to get nervous horses onto airplanes.

Horses don't like to get onto airplanes so Carl built a series of enclosed ramps that would gradually direct the horse right onto the plane. As the planes aged, the family didn't want to invest in a whole new fleet of aircraft and shifted to just selling planes and parts.

Delan became famous in 1999 when, at just 14 years old, he became the youngest person to have a solo flight in both an airplane and a helicopter on the same day. It was this news that finally gained him some respect at school.

Delan attended a private school where he was surrounded by other kids from wealthy families. Unlike the other kids who always wore the latest fashions, Delan wore jeans and plaid shirts to school and his father dropped him off in an old pickup truck.

The most notable thing that people remembered about Delan was that he would carry around a box of dog biscuits and snack on them throughout the day.

When Carl died in 2006, Wayne took over the business and even though Delan had previously gone to school to become a chef, he began running the business with his father.

Delan met a woman named Laura Babcock around 2009 at Brunswick House, a pub in Toronto. They began dating for a short time before becoming friends who would still engage in sex from time to time.

Laura then dated a man named Sean Learner for about 18 months in 2010 and 2011. A few months before they broke up, Laura told a health care worker that she had been suffering from depression and anxiety. She admitted to engaging in self-harm.

This was followed by a downward spiral of Laura using drugs, becoming homeless and working for an escort business.

During this time, Delan had started dating a woman named Christina Nudga and she had become jealous of Delan's relationship with Laura.

The women began texting taunts back and forth to each other. On April 17, 2012, Delan sent a text to Christina that he was going to take care of Laura.
