Summary

We have all felt the temptation at one time or another to think of ourselves as the center of our own little universe. This is because we live in a culture that encourages a self-centered mindset. Contrary to popular opinion, however, this kind of thinking is not something we should fall into. Self-centeredness and pride fool us into thinking that we, and our own needs, matter more than everyone else and their needs; the result is that we hurt others. To be self-centered is to be constantly focused on our own perceived importance and what others think; this comes out either through arrogance or shyness. Instead of being proud and self-centered, we should instead embrace a humble mindset, using Jesus Christ as our example. Genuine humility is agreeing with the truth, regardless of others’ opinion; God can only use us when we reach this point.

And I want to talk about something, because there are questions going around right now about

0:34.1

why are people doing what they do, or why are people not doing what they should be doing?

0:41.1

And there's an issue that we want to bring out. I've shared this before, but it seems very

0:47.5

timely to share it now. The issue of self-centeredness, the issue of being self-centered, and what

0:56.2

that causes, and what happens when you begin to really take hold of self-centeredness because

1:05.0

it seems like everybody in our country is really taking hold of that quality, which is something

1:11.2

that we should not want to have. So we're going to talk about self-centeredness,

1:16.8

and I'm going to show you how self-centeredness is the key to grief, the key to grief, a sense of

1:25.6

loss, a pain, hurt, and a sense of loss that occurs as a result of, excuse me, self-centeredness

1:34.1

being evolved in our life. Now, every one thinks that a teaching about self-centeredness

1:46.1

doesn't apply to them, that it always applies to somebody else and not to them.

1:52.8

And so you have a self, I have a self, everybody has a self, and you have a self and self is

2:03.7

something you have to deal with. Self is something that you're going to be dealing with for the rest

2:11.7

of your life, the only way that you stop dealing with self is you die. So that's something that we

2:18.7

all have in common, everybody has a self, but our culture has become self-centered, and self-centeredness,

2:30.0

and what I mean by self-centeredness, I want you to imagine a circle, and you're the only one
