But first, this weekend in Charmel Shake, Egypt, there was dancing in the streets as representatives

of 198 countries gathered for COP27.

Distinguished delegates, ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to declare open

the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention

on Climate Change.

The UN's annual climate meetings started as a time to figure out how to prevent climate

change.

These days it's increasingly about limiting and dealing with the change that the world

has already bought and paid for.
