defense on film, the all 22 coaches film, against the Carolina Panthers in their 19 to 16 week one win,

0:22.8

an absolutely excellent performance by the defense, both from a schematic standpoint,

0:27.7

wink martindale, from a play-going standpoint, wink martin dale, and from an actual effort

and production standpoint from the players. There are tons of players to go over in this

game who had absolutely great individual performances in my mind just in the start of this thing that come to my mind, Adjord Jackson, Leonard Williams, Dexter Lawrence come to my mind. Shane Zeminence obviously comes to my mind with an excellent game there as well. Julian Love, I thought, had by far and away his best game in the season. Dean Belton played pretty good ball. I didn't love what I saw from the linebacker specifically take crowd. I want to get to that with you, Nick. Ultimately, my first thought here to kick things off, Nick, is I think the Giants benefited from Ben McAdoo going away from the run. I think if the Panthers had stuck the run in this game, it might have been a different scenario. The Giants, the Panthers did a really good job running the football against the Giants on a consistent basis. And then they just got a little bit too pass heavy at times. And then went back to the run, had themselves a nice little drive. And then once again, got pass happy again. So I think ultimately they were finding solutions against the Giants' run defense.

I will go over the, I'll get your opinion on this later, but I think part of that is Tate Crowder as that main mic there. And obviously, it's partly game-plan specific. The Giants played with a lot of speed on the field, a lot of defensive backs. Everything that they did to match what Ben McAdoo did was brilliant, and it worked. I mean, when you see an offense that barely moves the football for most of this game, they had a long touchdown drive, the Panthers of 67 yards,

1:50.4

they had a couple field goal drives, three to be exact, but one was only 34 yards and 10 plays

1:55.6

when they started on a short field. So two mid-middling field goal drives, a short field

2:00.7

goal drive and a touchdown. And outside of that, the Giants just dominated them. So two mid-middling field goal drives, a short field goal drive and a touchdown. And outside of

2:02.4

that, the Giants just dominated them. So awesome stuff for you right to talk about here. Where do you

2:07.3

want to start, Nick? I felt like the Giants defensive front was actually pretty patient all game,

2:12.0

specifically against those stretch outside zone type of plays. There were several plays where

2:16.6

Christian McAfre was trying to get to

2:17.9

the edge and everyone stayed in their gap while flowing laterally with the outside zone. Outside

2:23.7

zone, every blocker for the offense steps play side, steps towards the running side. And the Giants

2:29.8

defense just laterally flew with them and stretched that run out, just elongating Christian McCaffrey,

2:35.3

not allowing any cutback lanes.

2:37.1

Then they all rallied and tackled on several of those occasions.

2:40.0

You had that backside pursuit defender just crashed down.
