So I had first encountered you through you co-authoring Coddling of the American Mind,

which was an extraordinary book for me.

As somebody with a lot of employees that were much younger than me, it really helped me begin to

But the part that I didn't see coming when I first started researching you was all the

First Amendment work and the documentary Mighty Ira, which I had probably heard his name before,

but didn't really know about him and his time at the ACLU and, you know, all the stuff that shook

down in like Skokie, Illinois and the Nazis marching there. It's like really crazy how at

the absolute center of the First Amendment free speech you really are. And I'm really

curious. One, how do you describe yourself? And then two, I'll want to know how you ended up as a

First Amendment attorney. Oh, wow. That's a long story. Hmm. Well, I describe myself still as a

political liberal,

but I think that I'm a little bit of retro in the sense that I'm

like probably a liberal circle,
