Over the years, we've talked plenty about the progression of Michigan women's basketball,

but in terms of wins, the Wolverines have been fairly consistent ever since Kim Barnes-Zerico arrived in Ann Arbor.

Here are the win totals for this program under Cochereco, 22, 20, 20, 21, 28, 23, 22, 21, and most recently 16.

And those last two, of course, came in pandemic shortened seasons.

But the backdrop of some of those recent seasons have changed, and not just because of the

pandemic.

First things first, the Big Ten keeps getting better and better and better.

This league is starting to climb from a national perspective.

So, wins are more valuable.

They're more difficult to get in this league than they ever have been over the last decade,

the coach O'Riko era.

Also, Michigan has transitioned from a program that hopes to get into the NCAA

tournament to one that expects to get to the NCAA tournament to one that expects to get

to the NCAA tournament. And once they get there, they expect to win. Michigan was not phased

by facing national powerhouses in big-time women's college basketball brands like Tennessee

or Baylor last March. Now, Michigan did put up respectable win totals in those first five years

Now, it is three out of the last potential three, and it probably would have been four

four had that 2020 postseason actually happened.

The constant in all of this growth, other than, again, a fairly consistent

win total, has been coached Kim Barnes-A-R-RICO. And this season, as expectations continue to
