It's tough not to feel deja vu and very negative deja vu following Tuesday's 78-75 lost Indiana at Chrysler Center.

Michigan men's basketball has had a very difficult issue since the start of last season closing out narrow games.

We heard it a ton this offseason about the focus that Michigan had in these

types of scenarios. Phil Martelli mentioned the stat to us. He probably could recite it in his

sleep this spring and summer. Last year, Michigan was four and 13 in games decided by six

points or fewer or in overtime.

And forget the context that the four wins came against Eastern Michigan by 5, Ohio by 4 in

overtime, Minnesota by 4, and then the dramatic game tying 3 from Hunter Dickinson

against Wisconsin on February 26th.

Many thought that might be a spark to something, and then we all remember what happened

in the final week of the regular season.

During the offseason, in all the work that Michigan did, this coaching staff set these

Wolverines players up, some of whom experienced those tough losses

last year, some of whom were in different parts of the country. They were in different stages

of their life. They were with different programs. But they all went through it, trying to create

as many situations that the Wolverines experienced, and even some more,

to try to drill into them, not just the importance, we all know it's important,

but to drill into them the ability, the confidence to win these types of games.

So far, it just hasn't resulted in much of a change.

The Wolverine started 3-0.

They dominated in wins over UNC Asheville, Youngstown State,

and then at Madison Square Garden against St. John's.
