The upcoming Michigan men's basketball season is a mystery.

It's difficult to speak with conviction about a whole lot with this group,

considering all that the program lost from last year to this year,

all that the program gained from last year to this year.

The fact that the head coach of the program is still slowly but surely working his way back

from a health scare,

from a heart procedure.

He has been around at times over the last week or so.

He was at shoot-around before Friday's exhibition, but he still is working to earn and get

the doctors and athletics director Ward Manual's approval to return full time.

So this is a program that has a ton more questions and answers, and yes, the Wolverines

did play an exhibition, the only one against a different team in front of fans, taking

out the secret scrimmage last weekend against Marquette.

And this isn't something where you got the puzzle out and you set up the border and now

you're working toward the inner portion of the puzzle.

You've bought the puzzle.

You've unwrapped the puzzle and you're maybe opening the box.

That's where we are right now.

And when you're facing a Division II program that's coming off a two-win season,

there's not a whole lot to glean from the numbers, from the X's and O's.

But I do think there are a few key takeaways from this one.

Number one, the Wolverines are going to have to get contributions from everybody.
