Michigan men's basketball's 22, 2023 finale felt like a rerun of a show you despise.

It felt like a horror movie with that spot that you know is coming, that you hate when it happens,

but it still makes you jump in your seat.

It was, unfortunately, a fitting end to what was a really difficult season.

Michigan, so many times this season had chances late. They were right

there on the cusp of a big win, and they weren't able to get it done. And this one,

from a statistical, from a play-by-play standpoint, probably was the most perplexing of them all.

Michigan led by eight with a minute left. Just before that minute,

Mark Hunter Dickinson missed a layup that probably would have been the dagger for the

homestanding Commodores. Then a Tyron Lawrence transition and won. Michigan turned it over after that.

They fouled and Ezra Mignon made a couple of free throws. Following a second Michigan turnover in the

final minute, Mignon had a lay throws. Following a second Michigan turnover in the final minute,

Manion had a layup. Then a third Michigan turnover, and then Tyrone Lawrence laid it up and in.

About 12 seconds left, and Michigan in a flash, was down by one. Then two missed shots, ballgame over,

season over.

The Wolverines had 13 games this season, where they lost in games that were decided by one or two possessions or in overtime.

I wouldn't blame you if you had flashbacks to some of those losses, to the home defeats in narrow contests against Virginia and Purdue, to that Iowa game on the road where it seemed like Michigan was locked in.

They were done.

It was a big road win, and it slipped through their fingertips.

Or that final week of the regular season that ultimately doomed Michigan come postseason time.

Three overtimes, yet no victories.

Michigan will have to learn from all of these experiences.
