Summary

In this exclusive series, we’ll explore the captivating stories of riders who found themselves in DEEP TROUBLE. We'll be dissecting these situations, shedding light on the challenges they faced, the strategies they used and the valuable lessons they learned. Most critically, we’ll discuss how the situation could have turned out differently if some controllable aspects were changed. We’ll talk about the possibilities and potential outcomes, so that perhaps other riders can learn from their experiences and avoid making those mistakes that get them into DEEP TROUBLE. Join adventure travelers Chad Horton and Rose Padilla, along with Spencer Conway and Cathy Nell from African Motorcycle Diaries, as they face perilous challenges in this episode of DEEP TROUBLE. Today we have another one of our exclusive Deep Trouble series.

0:08.4

Deep Trouble is a series that you will hear exclusively on adventure rider radio which is stories about riders in peril.

0:14.6

But it's more than that.

0:17.0

Deep Trouble is about that underlying framework that really fuels adventure, the framework

0:22.0

that is essentially the possibility that something could

0:24.9

go wrong, because if there was no risk, there would be no edge, no thrill, no excitement.

0:31.2

And although we don't really want to experience something going wrong for ourselves,

0:35.0

the fact that it's possible, even remotely, is what fuels adventure.

0:39.0

And for some more than others, a rider could be thrilled by making it through a muddy section, up a rocky hill,

0:45.0

through a river, knowing that the result could be getting stuck,

0:48.0

breaking the bike or sucking water into the engine.

0:51.0

No one wants that.

0:52.0

But nothing beats the satisfaction you get

0:55.5

from making it through a tough section. For another rider, it's crossing foreign borders,

1:00.8

riding far from home, dealing with languages and customs they don't yet

1:04.1

understand, and exploring new and far-off places. We riders are a modern type of

1:10.4

adventure out there exposed to the elements rider and machine. Of course we don't

1:15.6

want to drop our bike in the river and get stuck in some remote place in another

1:18.8

country or held up at a border, but it's kind of like walking out on a high cliff overlooking a vast valley.

1:27.0

The thrill that you get just by approaching it, the sensation that the edge is near, not just the thrill of danger, but it's only

1:35.5

when you get close to that edge that you're able to see the Vista beyond.

1:40.1

It's adventure, like riding a motorcycle.
