This is another in our series called Deep Trouble. Deep Trouble is an exclusive series found just here on

Adventure Rider Radio. It's stories from riders that have experienced catastrophes, being lost,

injuries, breakdowns, something that has led them into deep trouble. Now, of course, no one wants

to run into deep trouble, but let's face it, if there was no threat to dodge, no line in the sand to skirt,

no precipitous edge to approach, all personal, of course, there would be no adventure. And that

gray zone, that adventure gray zone that I would say lives between safety and danger,

it's all about riding in that gray zone, whatever your gray zone is, and avoiding deep trouble.

So that's what this series is about.

We listen to people who have had some problem,

they work through it and they've got out and they have some lessons for us

and hopefully keep us all out of trouble.

Today, Ian Varley is going to tell us a story about leaving the UK on an open-ended adventure.

Later on, he's in a foreign country and finds himself experiencing

a heart attack, or at least that's what he's told. But when it comes to getting medical

assistance, there's a big problem. And that sends Ian on a wild ride getting help for a heart
