The story I wrote for today is about a 21-year-old university of Wyoming student

who is looking for community by joining a sorority.

Instead, she faced death threats, a federal lawsuit,

and attempted to kick her out because of who she was.

Someone I worked with on a previous story told me about the student that joined a sorority

who is a trans woman and that she was having a really tough time.

I started talking to the student Artemis and just finding out a little bit more about what

her life was like in the years since this had happened since she joined the sorority.

And it was just really interesting kind of appalling at times amid everything that was happening

to her. She's still just a person and just another student nervous about starting a new semester

at a campus. There's so many of these topics like transgender issues that are so controversial

right now in politicized. And I just hope people will understand that no matter which side you're on,

that there's real people on both sides. Here's my story.

The morning sky was still dark as Artemis Langford's father hoisted the last of her belongings

into her car for the drive back to college. Be safe, he told her. I will, she promised.

She didn't mention how a day earlier, as she scrolled through social media comments,

she saw someone had called her a sicko who should be torn apart in a woodchipper

...
