So you have this vast range of scholarship behind you where you've written, I'm sure, lectured, taught on all of these different issues.

And now you have a memoir on motherhood. So talk to me a little bit about how you got to this place.

Yeah, you know, absolutely. I have wanted to write a memoir for a long time before I became a mother

and was really interested in writing about my family's history in Chicago. So that was

something that I had done little bits and pieces of. I started making a film

about Bronzeville and my great-grandmother's house. But then once I became a mom, the intensity of it

and the kind of just the desire to connect with other people as it was happening got me writing about it. And I have this
