The doctor that I trusted my life with would forever change my view of the word doctor who takes it oath to do no harm.

This is a story of over 500 patients who put their trust in a prominent oncologist.

He would look them in the eye and lie to them and say, you have cancer, and a system that enabled him to hurt people for nearly a decade.

I did encourage my mom to endure it. I did, but I did it for her to live. Not for her to die.

There was more than just a little wrong with him. This guy was thierbilical and smart and evil.

And then he gets in the courtroom in cries. He finally admits, I took advantage of my hypocritic oath and I let greed take over.

Well, you didn't shed any tears when you had that needle in my eye.

You didn't shed any tears when you build my insurance company. You didn't shed any tears when I lost my home, when I lost my job.

Where's the tears now? The only tears that I present now are mine. And I am the one that has the suffer.

But what greed? Power, thrill? It's just an awful thing to go through.

Laura Richards, Criminal Behavior Rinalist, former New Scotland Yard and founder of Paladin National Stalking Advocacy Service.

And I'm Lisa Zambetti. I'm the casting director for CBS's Criminal Minds. And the subject of today's show just really hits close to home, close to our hearts here at Real Crime Profile because it's kind of victim pool.

This offender targeted caused so much harm and just I want to just give us all a shout out because Jim himself has suffered an overcome a cancer diagnosis.

Laura and I both have close family members who are fighting cancer now and many friends and you know a case like this just is just a real fucking gut punch.

Absolutely. We're talking about Dr. Death Season 2 and the subject of this season of Dr. Death is Dr. Fata, who was by all accounts a renowned oncologist who was helping

literally tens of thousands of people by treating him for cancer. But what people found out fortunately people who worked for him who couldn't understand what was going on because Dr. Fata was treating people right up until the moment of death basically as opposed to giving them palliative care before they died.

And then also the numbers of people who came to him who then tested positive for different cancers was just like through the roof.

And as it turns out that's because he was faking it. He was faking that people had cancer. He was treating them with chemo. He was giving them poison.

When you get treated with chemo, I remember when I got diagnosed with cancer, I had lymphoma non-hatchkins lymphoma and I said to my doctor, all right, I'm ready to fight it.

Just give me everything you got. And he said, no, no, we want to treat you as minimally as possible. And I said, why? Why would you do that? He said, because chemo is poison. It's killing you.
