Major Ed Vought was a hard charger, one who never backed down from a fight, and always believed in good over evil.

And after a long decorated military career, Ed was happy to retire with his wife in Florida.

And while a beachside retirement sounds dreamy,

sleepless nights had become a regular occurrence for Ed.

And it wasn't because of PTSD or any night terrors or crazy flashbacks.

Ed was tossing and turning at night because no matter how hard he tried, he could not shake off what he knew deep down was true.

Throughout their marriage, his wife had always taken pride in her role as a housewife.

But over the past couple of years, something had changed.

Ed noticed that his wife was not really in touch with him anymore.

She spent more time outside and paying a lot more attention to her looks. Not to mention she disappeared somewhere in the house and he thought she was on the phone or the hang-up

calls they had been receiving. Let's face it, there are certain advantages and disadvantages

when you've got a really attractive wife.

And Ed's wife, well, she fit that description perfectly.

Long brown hair, a beautiful smile, olive skin, and features that made you think she was probably from south of the border.

She and Ed had been married for almost 18 years, and Ed was still as crazy about her as the day they met.

Maybe that's what set Ed on an 800-mile drive from his home in Niceville, Florida to Virginia Beach one day in February,

1999. Ed had a new mission to confront the man he suspected of having an affair with his wife.

But to understand Ed and how all of this unfolded, we have to go back.

Ed was a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, and enlisted in the Marine Corps, 1972, as the Vietnam War was winding down.
