Summary

On Wednesday, the day of a rail strike that wiped out almost all South Western Railway trains, London’s Northern Line shut down for an hour. With many travelers switching from rail to Tube, the closure was doubly damaging. It is not clear what caused the problem, and Transport for London has not responded to my request about it. But while I was part of the Tubeful of travelers wondering what was going on, I thought I should look at the best and worst Underground lines for cancellations.

People had switched from rail to tube and then started going nowhere.

1:24.5

I have no idea what caused the problem exactly. There was talk of a points failure in

1:31.5

Camden Town. There were trains heading south, really quite a lot of them, and I simply didn't

1:39.7

understand how you can have so many trains going south and nothing going north.

1:47.3

The delay being an hour.

1:52.8

Anyway, transport for London, I asked them what had caused the problem and if they could give me any more information about it.

They've not responded.
